Business Editors/High-Tech Editors SUPERCOMM 2005

CHELMSFORD, Mass.

(BW)(MA-SONUS-NETWORKS)(SONS) Sonus Networks Unveils New Multimedia Application Platform for Next Generation Services; IMX Application Platform Speeds Creation and Delivery of Next Generation Communication Services

Business Editors/High-Tech Editors SUPERCOMM 2005

CHELMSFORD, Mass. & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2005--Today at SUPERCOMM 2005, Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, introduced the Sonus IMX Application Platform, a web-based multimedia environment that enables wireline and wireless service providers to rapidly develop, integrate, launch, and manage enhanced telecommunication applications and services. The Sonus IMX Application Platform combines Internet and telephony application models, enabling the creation and delivery of voice, video, and data services in a highly scalable, standards-based platform. By providing the ability to integrate seamlessly with a service provider's wireline or wireless network, this innovative platform facilitates the development of new revenue-generating applications, improves time to market, and streamlines the delivery of existing or third-party next-generation services

Service providers have traditionally delivered new services through separate, stand-alone applications to address the requirements of each service, which has resulted in higher operating costs due to the multiplicity of networks and their associated management systems and staff. By utilizing the IMX Application Platform with Sonus' IMS Solution (See related release, "Sonus Networks Unveils IMS Solution for Next Generation Networks"), service providers have the essential components to realize the benefits of a converged all-IP network;

The IMX Application Platform's Service Creation Environment (SCE), combined with its capabilities to enable a service broker application, offers service providers a unique ability to create, integrate, and deploy wireline and wireless applications as part of their 3GPP IMS-compliant network architecture. Further, the platform allows service providers to customize call flows for existing applications or to introduce new applications by utilizing a library of pre-built application components offered by Sonus or through its Open Services Partner Alliance (OSPA).

Using the standard interfaces and web-based scripting tools of the SCE, service providers can build new applications such as a telephony voice portal, user-defined ringback tones or videomail. In addition, service providers will have the ability to integrate existing applications and services to provide subscribers with applications including IM Conferencing, click-to-talk and presence based services. All of this can be done with minimum programming expertise, cost, and time, resulting in faster time to market and an increase in subscriber growth and revenues

"In today's highly competitive market, service providers need to differentiate themselves through innovative offerings that can be rolled out to consumers quickly. Sonus' new IMX Application Platform enables service providers to harness the unique attributes of an IP-environment to reduce the time to market for new services," said Mike Hluchyj, founder and CTO, Sonus Networks.

"When the IMX Application Platform is coupled with a Sonus VoIP network, service providers can have confidence launching their new IP-based services knowing that the entire solution is supported by the proven strength of Sonus' industry-leading products." "Whereas some telecommunications equipment vendors have built solutions that strictly emulate the form and functions of traditional voice switching equipment, Sonus has always focused on a distributed, IP-based approach to building next-generation networks," said Brian Partridge, senior analyst, Yankee Group.

"With the IMX Application Platform, service providers have the ability to integrate existing services on one platform and the tools to rapidly deploy new, revenue-generating services to their customers. This is an important addition to Sonus' product portfolio and once again advances Sonus' position of leadership in the market." The Sonus IMX Application Platform supports the latest industry standards including CCXML Standard markup language for providing Call Control functionality, VXML Standard markup language for providing Dialog control, JDBC/ODBC for accessing external databases, Perl scripting for the manipulation of SIP headers for interoperability, and Java Server Pages for the run-time service delivery mechanism generated by the Service Creation Environment.

Sonus supports its IMX Application Platform with a full range of professional services.

Sonus' IMX Multimedia Application Platform is expected to be generally available in the third quarter of 2005.
