(BW)(WA-ACTION-ENGINE) Action Engine Positions Itself for European Expansion; New Appointments and Offices Signal Significant European Market Growth

Business Editors/Technology Writers

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2005--Shattering the mobile usability barrier, Action Engine Corporation, the mobile application platform leader, today announced plans to grow its European footprint, bringing the Fierce15-rated Action Engine Mobile Application Platform to operators across Europe. To spearhead its European expansion, Action Engine has appointed Mike Kent as the vice president of EMEA and expanded its offices in the UK and mainland Europe. Mike will be responsible for growing the customer base of mobile operators and deploying innovative expansion strategies with Action Engine partners. Under Mike's direction, the sales and business development teams in each office have been expanded, and the company has begun executing an aggressive strategy for further growth in Europe. The Action Engine Mobile Application Platform is a browserless client/server platform that allows users to access and use mobile applications with 80% fewer keystrokes and 20X faster response times than browser-based alternatives. In contrast to simple online services, such as downloading ringtones or games, Action Engine delivers its "80/20" advantage on demanding, query-intensive mobile Internet applications like offline portals, shopping, entertainment guides, and location aware directories -- applications that require lots of keystrokes, network round trips, and time when executed in a WAP browser. Moreover, as enterprises seek to drive operational efficiency and greater flexibility from mobile, Action Engine enables enterprise applications, such as corporate directories, financial services, and sales force applications to be delivered to mobile devices efficiently, through a highly intuitive user interface. Paolo Pescatore, senior mobile and wireless analyst at IDC said: "Operators will continue to focus on entertainment and enterprise applications as drivers of ARPU across Europe. As network bandwidth improves with 3G and in the future, with new standards, such as HSDPA, innovations in mobile music and improved data hungry enterprise applications, such as mobile CRM or sales force automation will all see significant growth. "Usability will be a key factor to operators attracting new customers and reducing churn and clearly companies, such as Action Engine have a very important role to play in the delivery and evolution of mobile applications." Mike Kent, vice president of EMEA at Action Engine, said: "Networks are now much faster in Europe and operators are keen for their customers to understand and use the additional bandwidth that is routinely available. In addition, Java handset penetration is very high in Europe and more applications are becoming available that exploit the MIDP 2.0 standard.

"Action Engine is well-positioned to bring operators, developers and end-users together because delivering a superior user experience within mobile applications is at the core of everything that we do. 80% fewer keystrokes, interconnected applications, and efficient use of the network compared to mobile browser based alternatives means that the user experience provided by Action Engine is greatly enhanced, increasing the likelihood of repeat usage and ultimately driving ARPU for operators." The news follows the recent announcement that the Action Engine Mobile Application Platform and Brand-n-Go have been optimised for Java-enabled mobile devices, as well as supporting Symbian Series 60 and Windows mobile devices. Action Engine has also laid the foundation to build an Action Engine Developer Network for independent software vendors and developers.

By providing its Software Development Kit, training, marketing and sales support to developers seeking to participate in the program, Action Engine certified partners will be able to rapidly develop feature-rich mobile applications at a fraction of the cost of building native applications.
