BRUSSELS, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2005- - Annual Award from World's Leading Project Management Organization Recognises Professionally-Conducted and Authored Project Management Research

Project Management Institute (PMI(R)), the world's leading not-for-profit professional association for the project management profession, has announced that Professor Peter W.G. Morris, Ph.D. is the 2005 recipient of the PMI Research Achievement Award.

Morris was presented with the award on Monday, 23 May 2005 at the PMI Global Congress 2005 -- EMEA in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The PMI Research Achievement Award, instituted in 2003, recognises and honours an individual(s) who has advanced the concepts, knowledge and/or practices of project management through professionally-conducted and authored project management research.

In 2004, Professor Morris delivered two important research-based books: The Wiley Guide to Managing Projects (Wiley), co-edited with Professor Jeffrey Pinto, and the PMI publication, Translating Corporate Strategy into Project Strategy, the result of a PMI research project awarded in 2003. The book's findings have the potential to profoundly influence the project management body of knowledge, and reflect Morris' long-term insight that, to be effective in the business world, project management needs to be intimately concerned with, and reflective of, enterprise objectives and strategy.

In addition to this work, Professor Morris has received significant funding from government and industry for work on knowledge management and project-based learning. His work has been widely published, including by PMI, and his work offers a significant stream of insight into the importance of context and socialisation in creating enterprise-wide programme and project management capability.

Professor Morris, a PMI member since 1976, is an academic authority on the management of projects. He began teaching in 1996 as Professor of Engineering Project Management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), moving on to Professor of Construction and Project Management at University College London (UCL), both in England. From 1996 to 2001, he led the Management Division in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at UMIST, where he continues to lecture as a Visiting Professor of Engineering Project Management.

Professor Morris has been head of the School of Construction and Project Management at UCL since 2002, and is Director of the Centre for Research in the Management of Projects, a joint UCL-UMIST collaboration. He is also Executive Director at INDECO Ltd., where he specialises in organisational development work for clients such as AstraZeneca, BP, Kvaerner, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Shell and WorldCom.

Morris sits on the editorial boards of several project management journals, and has written over 100 articles and several books, all widely cited texts in the project management field.

The PMI Research Achievement Award is part of a comprehensive PMI Professional Awards Programme that recognises outstanding performance in the practice of project management by volunteers and organisations involved in the project management profession. This programme also features its most prestigious Project of the Year Award, which is presented to team members who have demonstrated superior performance in the application of project management principles and techniques. The Project of the Year Award presentation, as well as others recognising individual achievements, will be made at PMI Global Congress 2005 -- North America in Toronto, Canada, in September.
