ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2005--Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced today the introduction of its smallest, easiest-to-use, most mobile HD ultrasound system. The Philips HD3 high definition system provides grayscale and color Doppler imaging with one button image optimization, Cineloop review, Tissue Harmonic Imaging, an adjustable flat panel monitor, and analysis packages and measurements for a wide variety of exams
As the technology of ultrasound imaging advances, more sophisticated systems are helping improve the physician's diagnostic confidence, providing real-time three-dimensional views of the inside of the body. However, for most small office practices, hospitals and clinics, the need is for simplicity--high quality, ultrasound that meets their daily scanning needs. This type of low-cost, high definition ultrasound is what is required for many basic OB/GYN, abdominal, small parts, pediatric, vascular and basic cardiology examinations
"We have worked to give these customers more of what they need and less of what they don't," said Barbara Franciose, CEO, ultrasound, for Philips Medical Systems.
"Less expense, less weight, less to learn and more time to concentrate on their patients." The Philips HD3 system addresses basic scanning needs while adding new technology and design advances that help improve image quality, ease-of-use and ergonomics.
Like Philips premium ultrasound systems, the HD3 has a broadband digital beamformer that captures and preserves more tissue information than conventional narrowband systems, and its wide dynamic range and digital focal tuning provide exceptional sensitivity and detail resolution. It has also been designed with an intuitive interface, simple controls and a self-paced training CD that allow someone with basic ultrasound knowledge to start scanning quickly. Single-control image optimization also makes it easy to capture a quality image based on common settings for a wide variety of patients and helps improve image consistency between exams
The HD3 is small enough to move easily between exam rooms, around the bedside or position in a crowded emergency room. Yet, the cart design of the HD3 allows quick access to multiple transducers, scanning supplies and necessary peripherals such as printers and recorders. The HD3 can also store images and reports to convenient recordable CDs or connect to DICOM-compatible patient information and image archiving networks
Clinicians without a large support staff and with limited resources also have access to Philips world-class customer service and support technicians through a variety of CUSTOMer CARE service plans that promote uptime, lower the cost of ownership and increase productivity
The HD3 system is the latest addition to the company's ultrasound portfolio and the fourth new system introduced in the last 15 months
First customer deliveries will start in Q3 2005
"Now imaging departments and physicians can choose from a broad spectrum of Philips ultrasound products from premium specialty products such as the iE33 and iU22 to the less expensive and more dedicated HD3," said Franciose.
